With the Affordable Care Act, employers with 50 or more full-time employees must offer medical insurance to full-time employees and their children to age 26. Read the Health Insurance Marketplace Notice. The university’s comprehensive health care packet - currently available to employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week for 90 days or longer - meets the ACA’s requirements.

The ACA also requires the university to report Social Security numbers for faculty, staff and dependents enrolled in group health plans to the Dept. of Health and Human Services and Internal Revenue Service. Learn how to add an SSN.

HSA option medical plan: High deductible

The HSA option medical plan is a high-deductible plan that offers insurance coverage and a HealthFund Health Savings Account for out-of-pocket costs. Benefits are available for both negotiated, lower-cost contracted, network physicians, hospitals, ancillary health care providers and facilities and for non-contracted, out-of-network healthcare providers and facilities. You have access to any physician, specialist or facility within or outside the network without receiving prior approval from your primary care physician.

  • Uses the U.S. network providers. 

  • Provides two benefits levels: In-network and out-of-network.

  • Offers international coverage for urgent and emergency care at the in-network benefit level. Other services may be covered at the out-of-network benefit level if approved in advance by the vendor.
