Minors on campus

 

The Minors on Campus Policy and promote the safety and welfare of minors who are entrusted to Arizona State University's care.

Departments are responsible for determining if an activity meets the Minors on Campus Policy requirements and accurately reporting on it in the activity registry.

Personnel or volunteers working in activities and programs with minors who are not ASU students or are an ASU employee, who have responsibility for the care, control or custody of a minor as part of that activity or program must comply with the policy.

Employee

  1. Employees who will have responsibility for the care, control or custody of a minor as part of their activity or program must be fingerprinted using one of these two options.
  • Fingerprint check.
    • Complete every three years. 
    • Departments submit requests to ASU's Office of Human Resources.
    • ASU's Office of Human Resources contacts the employee to schedule an appointment.
    • Valid for three years after the clearance date. 
  • Fingerprint clearance card.
    • Available through the or ASU Police Department at 480-965-3456.
    • Once obtained, employees present the card to ASU's Office of Human Resources for verification. 
    • Valid for six years from the issue date.

Non-employee

  1. Any person who will work with minors on campus who is not an ASU employee must first complete the appropriate volunteer form before completing the minors on campus process.

If the volunteer activity involves working in ASU laboratories or research areas, complete the .

If the volunteer activity is in a location other than an ASU laboratory or research area, complete the general volunteer form according to the age of the volunteer.

Non-employees must take additional steps to obtain access to the training program on ASU Career EDGE. Contact the program volunteer coordinator for system access. The process of obtaining access and the necessary actions are:

  1. Department initiates email notification with a link to activate ASURITE or stating ASURITE already exists.
  2. Department initiates email notification with a link to acknowledge HR PeopleSoft Security Role or stating Security Role already exists.
  3. Completes the Minors on Campus training course in ASU Career EDGE after you are notified by the department that you have access.

Reporting abuse

If you witness child abuse or neglect or have information that would lead a person to believe a minor faces a substantial threat, follow these mandatory reporting procedures. 

  • If a child is in immediate danger, call 911 to obtain immediate protection for the child and contact the ASU Police Department at 480-965-3456.
  • If a child is not in immediate danger, call the Department of Child Safety at 1-877-767-2445.
  • Personnel and volunteers must report the incident to the ASU Title IX Coordinator.
