The Arizona Board of Regents ABOR approved a new policy that has enabled ASU to create a new category of staff employees called university staff. This new category took effect on July 1, 2013. Service Professionals and non-faculty administrators who were employed by ASU on Jun. 30, 2013, were recategorized as university staff on July 1, 2013. All new staff employees - except police officers below commander level - will be hired as University Staff.
University staff is employed at will. In other words, the need for year-to-year appointments has been eliminated for staff positions. university staff will be employed without an express contract of employment for a defined period of time. This new category will greatly streamline HR policies and processes for staff employees and for managers.
This change does not affect compensation, benefits, training or career development opportunities for any current ASU employee, regardless of the employment category.
